From Wikipedia: The present Lyceum Theatre building was designed by Samuel Beazley and opened in 1834 under the name 'Theatre Royal Lyceum and English Opera House.' In 1904 the theatre was rebuilt and ornamented in rococo style by Bertie Crewe, retaining only the façade and portico of Beazley's original building. In the 1960s and 1970s, the theatre was used as a pop concert venue and for television broadcasts.

In 1996 it was restored and reconverted into a theatre for large-scale musicals or opera by Holohan Architects. The musical theatre version of Disney's 'The Lion King' has been performed here since 1999, featuring the music of Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.
