A Detroit landmark, this 36-story office building was designed by Wirt C. Rowland of Smith, Hinchman and Grylls and is a stunning example of mayan revival architecture with lavish art deco ornamentation. The mosaic tile ceiling and lobby feature Pewabic and Rookwood tile. Native American influences are prevalent in the interior and exterior design. The building features the work of Corrado Parducci, ceramic artist Mary Chase Perry Stratton, and muralist Ezra Winter. Originally known as the Union Trust Building, for a time it also had the nickname 'Cathedral of Finance.' The Guardian Building is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Read more »
